8 DAYS OF CONTINUOUS RAIN...

tower_dec2.jpg (65924 bytes) Dec. 02, 1999. This is a paved road to the Observation Tower, now completely submerged by 3 feet (90 cm) of muddy rainwater. I had to wade through this to get to the tower. Hmm...I hope there are no snakes, cactus, or thorns floating underwater, because I'm not in the mood for free acupuncture... 65 KB
river_dec2b.jpg (90116 bytes) Dec. 02, 1999. It is very unusual to see a river that is lined by cactus. This hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking trail (a shortcut between the Red Trail and the Blue Trail), leading to the Mahok Forest, is normally dry throughout the entire year. 89 KB
2_waterfall2.jpg (67708 bytes) Dec. 04, 1999. Another "kodak moment".
A beautiful waterfall on the Blue Trail.

4_bluetrail1.jpg (76749 bytes) Dec. 05, 1999. The completely submerged Blue Trail. This water ought to be receded by Dec. 11th. Well, that is if we don't get anymore rain...
Tomorrow... sunshine is forecasted. But seriously, who can really predict the weather accurately....I'm rooting for more rain at Savonet tho...this is beautiful stuff man...

Another part of the Blue Trail. This part is about 4 feet (120 cm) deep...my briefs (underpants) are wet! This section is near Boca Grandi, where this "river" ends, emptying itself into the caribbean sea...

This area is usually dry or semi-dry, but is now flooded by 2 to 4 feet of rainwater. The forecast calls for more rain....wow...I wish I had a kayak...:-)

MISC PICTURES

2_mikey.jpg (15509 bytes) Dec. 04, 1999. Walking around the park's new rivers in shorts and on Teva's can be quite hazardous, especially when cactus leafs like this "Mickey lookalike" float around submerged in the muddy rivers of rainwater. This one had floated "downriver",  hit the back of my leg and pierced my skin with 11 spines. But, tomorrow I'll be out there again in shorts and Teva's...... 15 KB
