Welcome to Earth First! Curaçao's educational website

This website contains educational information about the natural environment of  Curaçao and the organizations, groups and individuals that help to protect it. Earth First is a global environmental awareness and protection organization, with over 540 individual groups in many nations all over this wonderful planet we all have to share with Mother Nature. Earth First is respresented in Curaçao by a multi-ethnic group of greenminded natives and International-bred volunteers that have joined hands to combat environmental terrorism as EF! Curaçao.

We are located in Curaçao, an island in the Caribbean located just due north of the coast of Venezuela, due east of Aruba, and due west of Bonaire. Curaçao is a former Dutch Colony and was "discovered" in 1499 AD by the Spanish conqueror Alonso de Ojeda. In 1634 the Royal Dutch Navy drove out the Spaniards only to lose the island to the English and French for almost two centuries. In 1815, by Treaty of Paris, the Dutch Kingdom regained control for ever after.

One of the most memorable inheritances of the Dutch in Curaçao is the oil residu/asfalt lake in the heart of Curaçao left behind by SHELL. At a glance one cannot fathom how devastating the impact of SHELL's oil residu/asfalt lake has been to the natural environment and all its creatures great and small...to this date. The sad tale continues inside. (click on the 3 Iguanas below to enter our site)
